La surface du vent

Permanent installation

Private commission by Serge Roose, Architect, Brussels, Belgium

La surface du vent, oil painting on rice paper, hand sewn, structure in pear wood, 230 × 280 cm, 90.5 × 110.2 in, 2024-25

The work is constructed from debris of materials and with fragments of rice paper drawn, painted and sewn by hand. It evokes the idea of transformation and recalls the structure and origin of the Kesa, a garment worn by Zen Buddhist monks and nuns during meditation. In La surface du vent, the air of the space where the work is installed gives it a subtle movement, like breathing, which is now part of it
