Tajemství (Secret), 3 videos, 2003

Linea performance, 2003

The installation is a reflection on the vertical and horizontal movement/displacement, and on the space of the stairs as an intermediate space that connects stages in a building or districts in the city. The elevator of the Goethe Institute building, framed by a staircase, is symbolically displaced to a secondary staircase of the building where it is manifested through the projection of its mechanism on the ceiling.

Nearby the projection on the ceiling, on the window, is projected the video of the Linea drawing performance. Between Jeleni Studio, where I was an artist-in-residency, located in the Prague Castle area, and the Goethe Institute in the city center, passing through the staircase that connects the upper and lower parts of the city, I drew a chalk continuous line on the ground. The Linea performance meant a concrete displacement from one point to another in the city through a simple, humble yet uncomfortable gesture to explore and to incorporate the sound and visual context of the city.

Finally the installation also reveals what is hidden (the elevator mechanism) or what — maybe — we don't pay attention to: different surfaces and textures on the ground, a variety of sounds.
