Snodo project: drawings, paintings, videos

Vaste de mille-et-mille mailles - ColLaboratory is the conclusion of a project that began in early 2024 with a visit to Berlin by a group of Brussels-based artists from the ODRADEK residency collective. Over the course of eight months, the participating artists trialed various collaborative methods in ongoing online meetings and intensive work phases on site in Brussels. The entire process was documented and culminated in a first joint exhibition at ODRADEK's premises in September 2024. The project's starting point was a shared focus on drawing in its many forms, from traditional techniques to spatial interventions, from physical to conceptual approaches. Together, the artists question the boundaries of the medium and invite viewers to reflect on the role of drawing as a communicative and reflective tool. Like the entire process, the final joint exhibition at HAUNT poses questions about authorship, originality and collaboration with the means of drawing. The title Vaste de mille-et-mille mailles - inspired by Else Lasker-Schüler's poetic image of a Tibetan rug in which the individual threads are visible and yet inextricably interwoven - serves as a metaphor for the tension between individuality and collective action.

While the first phase was initially characterized by mutual awareness and parallel work on individual projects, the final exhibition features numerous works that emerged directly from the encounter and exchange between the two groups. The subtitle ColLaboratory emphasizes the experimental process with an open outcome, a process in which questions with a relevant social dimension are negotiated alongside artistic themes: How is the role of the individual in the group determined? What about authorship? How can originality and influence be delineated? How does mutual inspiration work, what are the prerequisites and strategies for successful collaboration?
