Rebuilding the Heart

Performance during Artist Residency
Ludwig Foundation of Cuba (LFC), Havana

Rebuilding the Heart, pencil on vellum paper, variable dimensions, 2000

During my residency in the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, I drew lines on a table likened to an altar. I drew lines of graphic translations of sounds I recorded in various places in Havana mixed with the line of my electrocardiogram. The idea of the altar was related to the offering, through the energy and the silent concentration of drawing.

The purpose was to fill the walls of the gallery with drawings on vellum paper that were exposed to the wind, whose movement and sound reminded us of the sea. —
